Simons Town is very well known and unique for one thing…having a colony of African Penguins right there in the suburb. One of the best ways to see them is to meet them in their natural environment.
Hop on a sea kayak and head out from the Simon’s Town Waterfront. Paddle past the Naval Yard with some of the biggest Naval Ships in the South African Navy and head towards Boulders Beach, famous for its penguins. If the time and tide is right, stop for a quick swim-break on the beach and get close to penguins hanging out on the beach and rocks. On occasion seals, dolphins and whales can also be spotted.

You don’t need any previous experience to kayak. Any abled body person can do it. As long as you are fit enough to walk for about an hour, you will be fit enough to do this. The double kayaks are very stable and it is very unlikely that you will fall off. If you do, it is also very easy to get back on. It is not a requirement that you need to be able to swim. You will be wearing a lifejacket the whole time. All of the trips are accompanied by an experienced guide that will give you a short lesson before setting out and that will assist you in any emergency.
